One day I was listening to the radio, which I hardly ever do, and I realized after 30 minutes that every song was about infatuation. Not really love in any mature sense of the word, but just crushing on someone so much that you're making all kinds of grandiose pronouncements about it. And just expressing this intense visceral need. It was foreign to me as a songwriter. I tried to do that in a few songs, and this is the one that made the cut. It merged with my experiences at the time as a therapist, working with clients struggling with co-dependency and feeling addicted to people that weren't good for them at all. It is what it is, right? Just plain human. Again, Jon Helm absolutely slaying on lead guitar here. I tried to mix it so his guitar is everywhere, just lording it over the other minion instruments and daring you to turn it up louder.
