about

Back in the spring of 2009, when Jon and I had just moved from Massachusetts to Columbus, we hatched an idea for a concept album about time travel and transmigrating souls. We plugged in the electric guitar to a shit-ton of effects pedals and jammed with the drum kit in the living room, taking turns with the instruments and recording the scraps on a cassette recorder. Some great stuff came from those perhaps drunken unemployed afternoons, including the Old Hundred songs Vanity, Country Man, and I Don't Wanna Die. This song came from then too. In some ways, it was the lynchpin of the whole concept album. I think it was slated to be the opener. I always loved it, particularly because it had a lighter perspective than what I usually gravitate to, but the concept album never came together and then it was hard to find an arrangement or project that worked for it. For this arrangement, I had "Twin Falls" by Built to Spill as an inspiration touchpoint. I think that was the right feel to lean towards. Eleven years later, I'm glad it's found a home. It's like a 6th grader now.

lyrics

I feel so peculiar walking through revolving doors
Have I seen your face before under the sun?

I could be a million sons or daughters waking up
Were you there in ‘81 under the sun?

I’ve been gone a lifetime Mum but I’ve come back to tell you that
Things ain’t what you think they are
And you should just have some fun
